Summary
If you want your users to provide you with information and emotions about a product in a fun way you can use the Product Love Letter method. The users hereby are being asked to either write a love letter or a break-up letter to the product in question. Each letter should clearly explain why the user decided for either side. This will help you to understand how the user feels about the product and what might be worth reconsidering.
Step-by-step
  1. Provide a quiet and relaxed environment in which users can work undisturbed. Participants should sit far enough apart that they cannot influence each other's opinion, e.g. by talking to each other about the product and their experiences with it. Then invite the users to the session.
  2. Start by communicating the task of the session, then hand out pens and paper. After that, all participants should be ready to write their love or break-up letter to your product.
  3. Present the letters to the other participants and start a constructive discussion. Which similarities within the letters begin to stand out? What was mentioned frequently?
